Our answer to COVID-19

Our holistic approach promotes resilient systems, local leaders and resilience. In this way it helps village communities to respond to challenges – even those such as the current one. To counter the effects of the pandemic, we have mobilized more than 500,000 trained volunteers and leaders in 13 countries. Through these networks, we worked with our local partners to ensure that village communities had the information and tools they needed to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.

From March to October 2020, our global employees and local managers have been working in communities:

  • distributed more than 36,000 public health posters in almost 600 villages in national or local language;

  • reached more than 3.6 million listeners through radio broadcasts about food security and public health;

  • produced more than 231,000 fabric face masks;

  • 65000 kg hand disinfectant and 203000 kg soap distributed

  • WASH workshops (access to clean water and sanitation with hygienic practices) with 30’215 participants were held;

  • installed more than 6,500 “Tippy Taps” (hand washing stations operated by foot pedal); and

  • distributed more than 207000 food rations to needy community members.
