Our holistic approach promotes resilient systems, local leaders and resilience. In this way it helps village communities to respond to challenges – even those such as the current one. To counter the effects of the pandemic, we have mobilized more than 500,000 trained volunteers and leaders in 13 countries. Through these networks, we worked with our local partners to ensure that village communities had the information and tools they needed to mitigate the impact of the pandemic.
Since March 2020, we have successfully implemented various measures in several regions:
• In Africa, we have installed more than 6,500 “Tippy Taps” – touchless handwashing stations – accompanied by extensive education campaigns.
• In Mexico, we translated and shared an education campaign for indigenous people in seven languages
• In India, we provided 8,000 local counselors with information about local COVID-19 aid programs, which they shared with their more than 500,000 people (including via WhatsApp).
• In Africa, we took steps to improve local food storage and increase crop yields.
Globally, we
• reached more than 3.6 million people with our Covid-19 education campaigns, providing information on infection risks and distance and hygiene rules.
• distributed more than 200,000 food rations to community members in need.
• produced and distributed over 278,000 cloth masks in village communities; “sewing armies” have been formed in some areas
• distributed over 65,000 kg of hand sanitizer and 210,000 kg of soap.
